The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) says it will only
be able to make a substantiated position on the 2018 crop
yield after a crop survey is conducted and figures
ascertained.
ZNFU president Jervis Zimba says the story aired on ZNBC
on Saturday and attributed to him had factual errors.
Mr
Zimba says the country has had a challenging 2016-2018
farming season where critical agricultural belts have been
affected by drought and flush floods.
He has cited Central,
Lusaka, Southern and parts of Eastern Provinces.
According to ZNBC, Mr Zimba says the drought from December 2017 to end of
January 2018 has considerably affected the maturity of crop.
He says ZNFU will always communicate factual information
as regards national food security.
Mr Zimba said this in a
statement released to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
