1. The Copperbelt University 'as it is known today' formerly housed two institutions namely; the Zambia institute of
technology (ZIT) original owners of the premises and the
University of Zambia Ndola campus (UNZANDO) which used to
offer social sciences and business programmes called
courses then.
2. Around 1986, the Zambia Institute of Metallurgical Sciences (ZIMS)
now called (Zambia Institute of Business, Scientific and
Industrial Practice) ZIBSIP joined in with ZIT and UNZANDO to
make one institution and in 1987 the Copperbelt University
was born.
3. ZIT and ZIMS now called ZIBSIP combined to form School of Technology SOT and turned what was previously a school
sports hall into classes called ST classes ST1, ST2, ST3 and ST4 respectively, ST standing for School of Technology.
4. On the other hand, UNZANDO formed social science based
programmed clustered as the school of business and the
school of environmental studies ES now called school of the
built environment, that justifies why most courses at the SBE
are prefixed 'ES' as course codes.
5. The school of business was
housed at the current School of Mathematics and Natural Science buildings whilst SBE has maintained premises.
6. It is important to note
that; the school of technology was later disbanded into the
school of engineering and the school of mines and mineral
sciences respectively.
