Govt approves bus fare increments | WestMac Media

And Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) head of public relations, Frederick Mubanga confirms that bus operators have increased bus fares for short and long distance routes.

Energy Regulation Board has announced the new fuel prices effective Monday midnight.
ERB Board Chairperson Raymond Mpundu says consumers will from midnight (today) start paying more for fuel following the Energy Regulation Board’s decision to increase the fuel pump price of Petrol from K12.97 to K13.97 per litre.

Coal power station to be built in Chipata estimated to create over 2,000 jobs
An investor has shown interest to set up a 500 megawatts coal driven power station in Chipata district at a cost of 900 million United States dollars.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo says
the investment will create over 2,000 jobs.

Police offers K300, 000 to any person with information on criminals destroying ZESCO pylons
Zambia Police has offered a K300,000 reward to any person with information that will lead to the apprehension and successful prosecution of criminals cutting or destroying ZESCO pylons.
Police Spokesperson, Esther Katongo has confirmed this in a statement.

Impact of escalating wood demand and loadshedding on Zambia’s forest

Presently, it’s a great
concern that forests in many parts of the country are disappearing and the current wood demand already places huge pressure on Zambia’s
forest.
In Zambia, demand for wood is increasing and analysis’s
predicts it will triple by 2050. Where this wood will come from is a challenge.
Consumption of wood by the end
users and other industrial organization dubbed contractors is very high. Trade
in forest products has increased significantly over the past 50 years,
especially in processed wood products such as sawn timber, pulpwood, board, and
wood-based panels.

Sweden launches new fund to bring clean energy to one million Zambians
The Government of Sweden, Power Africa and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) last week announced the launch of the Power Africa: Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia, an ambitious new market-based undertaking to bring clean energy access to one million
Zambians and accelerate private sector growth in energy generation and distribution in the country.
The Fund will “act as a catalyst for sustainable growth in this dynamic and up-and-coming economy,” said Sweden’s Ambassador to
Zambia, Henrik Cederin, who hosted a reception at Swedish Embassy in Lusaka with over sixty industry and related stakeholders.

Lungu directs Zesco to revert to old electricity tarrifs
President Edgar Lungu has directed Zambia Electricity and Supply Corporation (ZESCO) and Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to ensure that the new Tarrifs be squashed and the old Tarrifs apply.
The development comes after President Lungu paid attentively to the cries of Zambians who felt the pain of the 300% Tarrif increase especially in light of the other prevailing economic factors.

100,000 jobs to be created through diversification says Mwanakatwe

has projected to create 100,000 jobs through its efforts to diversify the economy towards other sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and energy over the 2016-2018 medium-term expenditure frameworks adding that these jobs are expected to impact 600,000 people in rural areas.

AKON dates 10 African countries to assess solar power initiative progress
Just days away from speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit held in Nairobi last Friday, singer and businessman Akon is heading to
Rwanda on Tuesday to monitor the progress of his lauded Akon Lighting Africa Solar Power Initiative, according to the New Times.
On Tuesday, the Konvict boss, Akon, as well as co-founders Samba Bathily, a Malian
businessman, and Thione Niang, a political activist, will meet with
Rwandan officials in order to ascertain what the progress is with his
initiative.
