The University of Zambia (UNZA) management has resolved to increase the number of students per room from two to four as a short term measure of addressing limited accommodation at campus.
Bunk beds have been bought to be fitted in the hostels so that each room can accomodate four students.
And university public relations manager, Damaseke Chibale says management will ensure that alternative accommodation is provided to as many students as possible before fully effecting the no squatting policy.

Mr Chibale explains that in the medium term, the university has undertaken to complete ongoing construction of hostels with over 4000 bed capacity and the refurbishment of a hostel that had caught fire among other measures.
He adds that the long term solution will involve construction of new hostels to match the increasing number of enrollments.
Meanwhile, recently after consultations with the Ministry of Higher Education, the university management warned students that squatting was illegal and would not be tolerated when the university opens on 11th March for the 2018 academic year.
