Government has reminded
registered societies to utilize of the amnesty they have been
given to file in their respective annual returns by 30th April
or risk being deregistered.
The ministry of home affairs has issued an amnesty to run
from 13th February to 30th April 2018 for registered
societies to submit their annual returns.
Home Affairs minister Steven Kampyongo says after 30th
April, 2018, defaulters shall be required to pay a penalty fee
of K 6000 in order to be reactivated.
Mr. Kampyongo has noted with concern that less than one
percent of the defaulters have so far normalized their
registration since the Amnesty was issued over one month
ago.
He has explained that the amnesty is aimed at cleaning the
register by ensuring that noncomplying societies are
deregistered.
He has since urged members of parliament to remind all
registered societies in their constituencies to file in their
annual returns before the deadline.
Currently there are over 25,000 registered societies which
are expected to file annual returns with the registrar of
societies.
The Societies in question include women's clubs, cultural
groups, association's, community service societies, political
parties and religious groups among others.
