University of Lusaka (UNILUS) has won the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) Moot Court Competition.
The Competition was held between 26th and 27th March 2018, at The Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.
And total of six universities participated in the moot court competition
namely: Cavendish University, National Institute for Public
Administration (NIPA), University of Lusaka (UNILUS),
University of Zambia (UNZA), Zambia Center for Accountancy
Studies (ZCAS) and Zambia Open University.
The competition was organized by
Beyond Research, an organization comprising of professionals from various fields who are interested in enhancing access to justice.
Beyond Research specializes in multidisciplinary research and development studies.
The lawyers in the making were given a hypothetical case which had to be argued out before practicing advocates and
academicians who acted as judges.
The first round of the competition saw UNILUS take the victory with NIPA as
runner up.
In the second round, UNILUS had to battle it out with NIPA to determine which institution proceeds to represent Zambia at the regional.
The presiding judges over the FCTC Moot Court Competition were; Law Association of Zambia President Eddie Mweetwa,
Zambia Law Development Executive Director Mrs. Hope
Ndhlovu Chanda and Beyond Research Executive Director
Dr. Lungowe Matakala.
UNILUS emerged as the winning
University with Chiyesu Kamelu being awarded as the best
orator.
The university will represent Zambia at the regional competition which will be held in Lusaka at The Taj Pamodzi Hotel between the 4th and 7th of April, 2018.
