Zambia has taken a lead in placing women in influential
positions of national leadership in the region and even at a
continental level, President Edgar Lungu has said at the AU
summit in Johannesburg according to ZANIS.
President Lungu mentioned the positions of Chief Justice,
Inspector General of Police, Director General at the Anti-
Corruption Commission and Commissioner of the Drug
Enforcement Commission as being held by women, a clear
demonstration of his government’s confidence in women.
Zambia’s vice President Inonge Wina is the first woman ever in that position in Zambia’s 50 years of independence while the Inspector General of Police, at the Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia is a woman too.

The AU Summit in Sandton city of Johannesburg is being
held under the theme: “Year of Women’s Empowerment and
Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063”.
President Lungu was selected to represent the Southern African region in a facilitated panel discussion on the Theme.
