A peer educator has appealed to parents in the Northern Province not to infringe
on children’s rights.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kasama today, Glenda Limpo said it was sad that despite Government mounting vigorous sensitization children’s rights were still being violated in the area.
Ms. Limpo said it is also disappointing to learn that most of the perpetrators are actually parents who are expected to be
protecting the rights of their children.
She noted that in most cases children who are abused by
parents or guardians find it difficult to report such offences
and end up suffering emotionally.
She appealed to parents and guardians to take children’s
rights seriously and desist from abusing their children.
Ms Limpo cited child labour and early marriages as some of
the most common offences being committed in the area.
She said today being African Child Day, it was important for
both children and adults to reflect on the importance of
respecting children’s rights and adhere to them in order to
raise a stable nation.
