Job Vacancies: Musika Zambia (7 Positions) | WestMac Media

Musika is an independent Zambian non-profit company supported by the Embassy of Sweden and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to stimulate and support private sector investment in the smallholder and rural markets.
Musika’s operations are national in scope and stretch across the agricultural industry, working primarily with those corporate entities in the sector that are committed to engaging the rural poor as their clients, suppliers and consumers.

Musika provides its clients with high quality, commercially focused technical advice and business support to catalyse and strengthen mutually beneficial commercial relationships between the corporate and smallholder markets. 

Musika’s approach to reducing poverty and creating wealth in rural Zambia involves stimulating the development of a supportive market environment that provides long term and sustainable opportunities for farmers to invest in their own businesses and to graduate out of poverty. Musika invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced Zambian Nationals to fill the following positions: 

1. SMALL BUSINESS MANAGER X2 (SOUTHERN & WESTERN) 
Key responsibilities: 
• To utilise recommendations from commercial agribusiness partners, to undertake a detailed initial assessment of the small businesses that exist within the area of operation to understand their capacities, their capacity gaps, their existing business linkages and their needs. 
• To facilitate Small Business Trainings and assist in the development and continuous upgrading of the training curricula for the range of small businesses covered by Musika’s operations. 
• To monitor and coordinate all the after- training activities and mentorship strategies built around the small businesses within the programme. 
• To participate in the design of interventions and development of intervention proposals that relate to the region. 
• To contribute to the management of the interventions within the region and to ensure that, in the absence of a team member, all roles of intervention management are able to be covered. 
• To contribute to the regular and continuous reporting on the activities undertaken within the region.
• To prepare and coordinate timely reports, assessments and feedback as required by the Knowledge Management Team. 
• To manage an information system that tracks progress relating to Musika’s indicators as specified by the Knowledge Management Team.  

Required Qualifications and Skills: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject such as Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration etc. 
• A strong understanding of the Zambian agricultural sector. 
• Highly self-motivated with good analytical and facilitation skills. 
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to function as part of a team. 
• Ability to write clearly and coherently and articulate complex issues. 
• Willingness to work in and/or travel to rural areas 
• Clean drivers’ licence. 
• Good computer literacy. 
• Some experience in business. development preferable. 
• At least five years’ experience in agriculture or agriculture-related work, ideally with private sector experience. 

2. MANAGER – LIVESTOCK MARKETS-LUSAKA 

Key responsibilities: 
• To undertake and coordinate the collection, collation, management and dissemination of all market assessment work related to livestock markets. 
• To lead in the ideation and innovation, opportunity identification and intervention generation process in a specific portfolio within the agricultural diversification practice area that includes, but is not limited to beef and dairy markets, small livestock, veterinary, nutrition and genetics markets and aquaculture markets. 
• To manage and take responsibility for all interventions within the specific portfolio within the agricultural diversification practice area ensuring all technical and financial support is provided in an efficient and effective way as possible and maximum ‘return on investment’ is generated. 
• To conduct continuous learning through market surveys/assessments to broaden the understanding of the market and the changing behaviour of the various actors within it staff on official assignments. 
• To develop and maintain professional and institutional relationships with all key stakeholders (public, private and non-governmental) in the livestock marketsand in doing so, create a platform for sharing information for the betterment of the market in general. 

Required Qualifications and Skills: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in a relevant subject such as Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration, agribusiness management, development studies, etc. 
• A strong understanding of the Zambian agricultural sector. 
• Highly self-motivated with good analytical and facilitation skills.

3. MANAGER - FINANCE AND DIGITAL MARKETS - LUSAKA 
Key responsibilities: 
• To explore and identify new and high potential commercial clients and opportunities for Musika intervention in line with its M4P approach within finance and digital markets. 
• To lead in the ideation and innovation, opportunity identification and intervention generation process in a specific portfolio within the business and finance markets practice area that includes, but is not limited to agricultural finance markets and digitisation of the agricultural economy. 
• To manage and take responsibility for all interventions within the specific portfolio within the business and finance markets practice area ensuring all technical and financial support is provided in an efficient and effective way as possible maximum ‘return on investment’ is generated. 
• To prepare and coordinate timely and comprehensive reports, assessments and feedback as required by the team and to manage an information system that tracks progress relating to Musika’s indicators as specified. 

Required Qualifications and Skills: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject such as Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration, agribusiness management, development studies, etc. 
• A strong understanding of the Zambian agricultural sector.

• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to function as part of a team.

4. RESEARCH OFFICER 
Key responsibilities: 
• To Design research initiatives and drafting the initial concept notes. 
• To Utilise the most appropriate tools, develop sampling frames and questionnaires and other survey instruments. 
• To Design data collection tools for surveys and other data collection purposes in line with Musika results chains and measurement plans. 
• To organise research activities, contacting Musika staff and key agricultural market stakeholders to arrange surveys etc. 
• To collect data during surveys (baselines, impact), case studies and other targeted research. 
• To analyse both quantitative and qualitative data. 
• To prepare finished research and, where necessary, present it to internal or external audiences i.e. synthesis for Musika quarterly and annual reports, report publications on Musika website/ bulletins, stakeholder conferences etc. 
• To work with sub-contractors on research assignments in cases where external entities or individuals being hired to conduct research on behalf of Musika.
• To Participate in shaping the learning culture of Musika and in producing regular external communication materials and sharing ideas for improved impact.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences (Agricultural Economics), Economics, Demography or equivalent.
• Good command of data analysis tools – STATA and Excel is a primary requirement. Proficiency in SPSS as a secondary tool will be an added advantage. 
• Strong research and analytical skills. 
• Ability to write clearly and coherently and articulate complex issues. 
• Good team leading skills: designing and coordinating surveys, and spearheading the enumeration team will be part of the main responsibilities. 
• Previous experience with good command of data analysis tools – STATA and Excel is a primary requirement. Proficiency in SPSS as a secondary tool will be an added advantage. 
• Strong, demonstrable research skills and experience, preferably within the agricultural sector. 
• Good communication skills. 
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in rural settings when necessary. 

5. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT OFFICER - NORTHERN 

Key responsibilities: 
• To contribute to the design of research initiatives, sampling frames and questionnaires and other data collection tools. 
• To work in collaboration with the Research Team, organising research activities, contacting Musika staff and key agricultural market stakeholders to arrange surveys and research initiatives, etc. in the region and collecting data during surveys including baselines, impact assessments (farmer, intermediary and company level), case studies and other targeted research. 
• To Create a database for all clients, interventions, reports, etc. within the region. 
• Conducting intervention monitoring and assessment for interventions during the life of intervention. 
• To collaborate with Technical and Knowledge Management teams at both regional and head office level in the aggregation of reports for various interventions, with a view to identify key research needs and areas requiring further insight. 
• To collect case studies and stories of impact on a regular basis to input into the Musika quarterly and annual reports. 
• To generate regular and accurate results and activity reports. 

Required Qualifications and Skills: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences (Agricultural Economics), Economics, Demography, Development Studies or equivalent. 
• Strong research and analytical skills ΓΌ Ability to write clearly and coherently and articulate complex issues. 
• Good team leading skills: designing and coordinating surveys, and spearheading the enumeration team will be part of the main responsibilities. 
• Good communication skills. 
• Good interpersonal skills and willingness to work in and/or travel to rural areas ability to work in rural settings.

6. RESEARCH OFFICER – SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT 

Key responsibilities: 
• To conduct a series of research assignments that contribute to Musika’s understanding of the dynamics of small rural agribusinesses in agricultural markets across Zambia. 
• To participate in improving the capacity of small rural agribusinesses to deliver market services to the smallholder market. 
• To participate in developing and enhancing commercial partnerships between small rural agribusinesses and other key market players. 
• To design data collection tools for small rural agribusiness surveys and other data collection purposes in line with Musika results chains and measurement plans. 
• Collect data during surveys (baselines, impact), case studies and other targeted research.
• Analyse both the quantitative and qualitative data. 
• To provide support in the creation of databases for all data collected by Musika related to small rural agribusiness. 
• To work with sub-contractors on research assignments in cases where external entities or individuals being hired to conduct research on behalf of Musika. 
• To participate in key surveys such as the Annual Household Survey (AHS), Rural Agricultural and Livelihood Survey (RALS) etc. 
• To Participate in the aggregation of reports for various interventions, with a view to identify key research needs and areas requiring further insight. 

Required Qualifications and Skills: 
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in in Agricultural Sciences (Agricultural Economics), Economics, Demography or equivalent. 
• Strong research and analytical skills. 
• An ability to write clearly and coherently and articulate complex issues. 
• Good team leading skills: designing and coordinating surveys, and spearheading the enumeration team will be part of the main responsibilities. 
• Good communication skills. 
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in rural settings when necessary. 
• Previous experience with good command of data analysis tools – STATA and Excel is a primary requirement. Proficiency in SPSS as a secondary tool will be an added advantage.
