The African Women Association (AWA) held the African Women Awards (AWAwards) in Harare on the 7th of November to pay tribute to African women who have contributed to the development and positive image of Africa.
AWA aims to empower women in order to maximize productivity, spur innovation and position women to lead.
This event is
the first of its kind and will be held in a different African country each year.
Among other categories the Entertainments and Arts category was tightly contested by Mary Kasoko, Dillish Matthews and
Hilda Mauya for a “Promising Personality Award”.
And Zambia National Broadcaster Corporation (ZNBC) news caster and TV producer Mary Kasoka, the presenter of “Let’s talk” scooped the second prize, “promising personality award”.
Ms. Kasoka hosts “Let's Talk” - a show that brings human interest stories such as family building to love matters airs on the national broadcaster every Saturday at 12:05 hours started showing about three years ago.

Dillish Matthews from Namibia, a former big brother Africa season 8 winner, was awarded the first prize.
Hilda Mauya, a fashion designer from Kenya based in the United States of America came third in the category at a
colorful award ceremony. She is a Founder of Dahil Republic of Couture brand and Vision for Africa Foundation in Kenya.
Another Zambian who tightly competed for the AWA awards was the Founder & CEO – Java Foods Limited.
Monica Musonda, Founder & CEO – Java Foods Limited was nominated for Business and Enterprise category under the Business Achievement Award.
Under the Business Achievement Award, Ms. Musonda competed against Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, an Ethiopian : Founder & CEO – Sole Rebels and Joy Ndunguste/ Janet Nkubana from Rwanda : Founders of Gahaya Links.
AWA is an organization established by African women for the purpose of recognizing and celebrating female role models within Zimbabwe, Africa as a whole and the African diaspora. Prioritizing gender equality is a
crucial prerequisite to revealing the potential of women and by extension the countries they reside in.
