East Park Mall Pick n Pay members of staff have reacted to University of Zambia (UNZA) students habit of taking trolleys to campus lamenting that other customers suffer when carrying heavy 'shopping-bags' to their vehicles.
East Park Mall is situated along the Great East Road few metres from the University of Zambia main campus.
A Pick n Pay member of staff who refused to be quoted told WM Media that some UNZA students don't return trolleys when they use them.
“Some UNZA students have a habit of using trolleys to transport their shopping-bags and other heavy products to campus and they don't return them back,” the source disclosed to WM Media reporter at East Park Shopping Mall.
“It becomes our duty to make follow ups at campus every time we notice that some trolleys are missing,” added the source.
And according to a research conducted by WM Media research team, students use these trolleys for anything they want to transport around campus including such things as luggages from the vehicles to the hostels or mattresses from one end to another.
Few students spoken to confirmed that trolleys are used as campus vehicles and often shout “nikwisa muletwala ama Taxi yesu?” To mean 'where are you taking our Taxis' whenever Pick n Pay staffers storm campus to fetch their trolleys.
In trying to mitigate the system of taking trolleys to campus Pick n Pay management in partnership with UNZA security officers have resorted to be stopping students from entering campus with trolleys.
On the other hand Pick n Pay is working on putting across measures around the Shopping Mall that could restrict student from taking out trolleys to campus after doing shopping.
