In a controversial and tightly contested pageant, 2013 Mr Ugly winner William
Masvinu accused the judges of bias, and called for a repeat.
The 2013 Mr Ugly Zimbabwe William Masvinu was left crying foul after he lost his title to Maison Sere in a tightly
contested pageant.
Sere, who has several teeth missing, wore torn overalls and he managed to beat off five other contestants, walking away with $500 and the Mr Ugly title, Daily Mail reported.
However, Masvinu who was the first runner-up was not amused and accused the judges of bias and called for a fresh contest, “If you have missing teeth it doesn’t mean you are ugly,” he said in an interview.
Prior to the pageant, Masvinu, was confident of retaining the title, having successfully retained the title he won in 2012 pocketing $100 for his looks.
Defeat is surely hard to swallow for Masvinu who in the past bragged that,
“My ugliness comes naturally to me and
although I [do] a bit to prepare for the show, I let them do the rest,” he told allafrica.com.
However, this year the two-time winner has to contend with being the first runner-up.
The winner, Sere thanked the judges and said: “I want to thank God for winning this title, last time I came fourth. I just want to thank the judges for recognising me as the
winner”. Source: Daily Mail
