First Lady Esther Lungu says youths are a solution to most of the challenges faced by society adding
that young people are a great resource that can be used in alleviating many problems in Zambia.
Speaking at a fundraising dinner, Mrs. Lungu noted that there was need to find ways of engaging young people in the process of development as active stakeholders not only as beneficiaries.
The dinner which took place in Lusaka on Friday aimed at raising resources for a cause ‘A better life for the underprivileged teenage girls in Zambia’.
At the same dinner, chairperson of the Chinese Ladies Union in Zambia Geng Hailing said helping girls is helping future mothers who would in turn shape the nation.
Fostering a better life for the underprivileged teenage girls in Zambia, Hailing donated K100, 000 towards the cause.
Mrs. Lungu also said the world is facing the largest youth generation in history and young people are disproportionately affected by pressing development issues.
Mrs. Lungu quoted that nearly 50 percent of the developing world population comprises young people and children.
“It is evident from the numbers available that the stability of governments, the growth of economies and the development of social sectors are directly impacted by the well-being of youth,” she said.
Mrs. Lungu further said Government and civil society organizations should work to ensure youth-friendly health services are available to youths as stipulated in the national youth policy.
