Some of Lusaka's startups that have invested in Zoona, MTN and Airtel businesses have been left hopeless after
Lusaka mayor Wilson Kalumba ordered the removal of all MTN, Airtel and Zoona money transfer booths from the streets of the Central Business District.
The Lusaka City Council police on Friday swung into action to remove MTN, Airtel and Zoona money transfer booths from City Centre.
Meanwhile, Mwaba Mutale, a Zoona agent says this move by the Mayor is extremely counter productive and will result in lots of young people going back to illicit way.
“I now employ 15 youths who get some good income at the month end and I know how much their families depend on
those moneys. This is extremely counter productive and will result in lots of young people going back to illicit ways. Dialogue should have been the way forward. And there are other pressing issues like cholera and removing the garbage
all over lusaka than go to harass people's survival and livelihood in a country where there are clearly no jobs,” he says.
