Mufulira Deputy Mayor,
Beatrice Kapasa has urged women in the area to take
advantage of the various empowerment schemes that
government was offering to improve their lives.
Ms. Kapasa noted that the Patriotic Front government has
been making strides aimed at poverty reduction and
promotion of financial independence of women, through the
implementation of various empowerment schemes such as
village banking, and provision of grants to women’s groups,
all targeted at women to enable them improve their lives.
She noted that all that was required is commitment and full
participation from women if these programs were to bear
fruit.
Ms. Kapasa urged women to get organized and form women
groups in order to fully benefit from the various
empowerment programs government is implementing.
She said funds such as village banking provided capital for
women to engage in income generating activities which will
increase food security for families, and lead to women’s
financial independence.
Ms.Kapasa urged women to step up their involvement in
income generating activities, in order for them to contribute
to the country’s development.
She said women had the potential to become equal partners
in development with men, if they fully utilized the
opportunities created by government for their
empowerment.
