Justice and Defense Minister Edgar Lungu has been declared PF presidential candidate at the PF General Conference that has been held at Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe this afternoon. 

PF General Conference election retuning officer Tutwa Ngulube announced Mr. Lungu as unopposed winner of the election following the failure by the rest of the 8 contenders to show up when their names were announced to the delegates just before the election could be held. 

Meanwhile Acting President, Guy Scott, has nullified the declaration of Edgar Lungu. 

Dr Scott says the declaration of Edgar Lungu as the PF Presidential Candidate for the January 20 presidential by election is null and void.

Snake withdraws cash from Zimbabwe ATM

A snake in Zimbabwe has been able to withdraw cash from a Barclays ATM. Occurring in the capital city Harare, the snake then proceeded to enter a nearby car. 

Social media was awash with pictures of the the incident. A large crowd of onlookers had also gathered to see what was going on.

Kabimba was in the recent past relieved of his positions as Minister of Justice and Secretary General of the PF by the late President Mr Michael Chilufya Sata on 28 August, 2014.

Chinese millionaire builds free luxury homes for entire village where he grew up

Businessman Xiong Shuihua said he had ‘more money than he knew what to do with’ according to mail online.

A kind-hearted millionaire returned to the village where he was born to build free luxury homes for all of the residents. 

Xiong Shuihua spent millions transforming the community, bulldozing wooden huts and replacing them with new homes. 

The 54-year-old was born in Xiongkeng village, in the city of Xinyu southern China, before later making millions in the steel industry.

President Yoweri Museveni threatens to block Kenyan products

Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni has threatened to block Kenyan products from accessing Ugandan market, saying Kenya’s move to block sugar and chicken exports from Uganda is not only “myopic” but contravenes the East Africa Community Protocol. This is according to the Daily monitor.

Uganda has traditionally been Kenya’s largest trading partner in the region, but recent data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) ranked the country third, with Tanzania coming second. Museveni said he shall sort it out with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

299,710 pupils have been accepted to grade eight

Education Minister John Phiri has announced the results in a ministerial statement in Parliament, says grade seven results are out and all schools will start issuing out results on Friday.

Dr Phiri says out of a total of  332,953 candidates who sat for the 2014 examinations 299,710 pupils have been accepted to Grade eight.

Mawano Kambeu Scoops Second Place Award of the 2014 GIST Tech-I competition

GIST officially announced the prize winners of the 2014 GIST Tech-I competition.

Out of the fifteen finalist in the startup category of the GIST Tech-I competition, Mawano Kambeu won the second place award. His startup has developed a way for the Zambians to reserve and pay for bus travel with their smart phones, computers or third-party sellers like the post office.

Kambeu, 31, is also the founder and Managing Director of DotCom Zambia.

Ejikeme Patrick Nwosu turns human urine into flammable gases

A Nigerian scientist with an MSc degree from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, claims that his flammable gases could replace fossil fuels in the near future. 

Ejikeme Patrick Nwosu, 31,is a Nigerian scientist who has received a patent for his pioneering work of turning human urine into hydrogen-ammonia-rich flammable gases and fire resistant materials ,raising hopes in a time of a global energy crisis.

Kim Kardashian says she would support her daughter do nude photo shoot

Kim Kardashian was up at 92.9 promoting her new perfume, Fleur Fatale, and to help that, the hosts of the show decided to ask, Kim if she would let her daughter North West, who turned 1 this past June, do a nude photo shoot, similar to Kim’s Paper magazine cover. Her response? 

“I would support anything she wants to do.”

Technology is changing the face of journalism

Technology is changing journalism and editorial processes at large and the Daily Maverick, a South African online news publication, serves as an example of this, according to Chris Borain, its commercial director. 

An online report by the Digital Media and Marketing Association (DMMA) in July indicated there are 22 million (now 23 million) unique browsers in South Africa and according to the latest statistics 50 per cent of those access the internet through mobile devices. 

Speaking at the Footnote Summit in Cape Town today, Borain said: “Readers of news have migrated to a multi-platform environment. This migration in South Africa is hampered by the high cost of productivity and low broadband connectivity.”

Tony O. Elumelu joins Africa's 50 Richest 2014 list

Tony O. Elumelu, a Nigerian investor and founder of African investment firm Heirs Holdings, joins the rich list with a net worth of $1 billion. 

Elumelu owns a controlling stake in Transcorp, a listed Nigerian conglomerate that has interests in insurance, healthcare, hotels, power production, energy and agriculture. Elumelu is a proponent of Africapitalism, an economic philosophy that propagates that the African private sector has the power to transform the continent through long-term investments, creating both economic prosperity and social wealth.

Elumelu made his fortune when he bought into a struggling Nigerian commercial bank and transformed it into the United Bank for Africa, a leading commercial bank with a presence in 19 African countries.

About five years ago, Mary Grace Henry of Harrison, New York, asked for a sewing machine for her birthday. She wanted to design and sell headbands to pay for just one African girl's schooling.

Now, 11,000 creations later, the 17-year-old has sold enough to give 45 girls living in extreme poverty the gift of an education.

Dickson has just come out to join numerous other women of accusing Bill Cosby of sexual assault.

According to Dickinson, Cosby,77, a comedian gave her a pill and a glass of red wine, after she complained of experiencing stomach pains. “[The next morning] I wasn’t wearing my pajamas, and I remembered before I passed out that I had been sexually assaulted by this man,” Dickinson told ET. “Bill Cosby in a patchwork robe, dropping his robe and getting on top of me,” were the last things she remembered.
