Get a copy: Book on the late Michael Chilufya Sata to be launched on 7th July

A memoir on the Fifth Republican President of Zambia, Michale Chilufya Sata has been published by two authors: Kasonde Mwenda C and Mubanga B. Sata. 

The book is scheduled to be formally launched between 09:00hrs to 20:00hrs on 7th and 8th July 2017 at Mandahill Mall, Lusaka and its title is ‘Passion Indelible’ with a tagline ‘cry for yourself, do not cry for me’.

Vice Chancellors claim that TEVETA has not de-registered Cavendish University, LIUTEBM

Sekuru Tauzen Mujaji, a Zimbabwean man who holds the record of fathering 108 children from 25 women, says he is hoping to have many more. 

Locals say 87-year-old Mujaji from Chipinge South fathered all 108 children in the space of 43 years.

Sleeping with own daughter since 2015 lands 50-year-old man in custody

A fifty-year-old man of Mumbwa in Central Province has been arrested for allegedly marrying his 13-year-old daughter after separating with his wife. 

Otisi Kabilo of Ntalasha Village in Chief Shakumbila allegedly started having sex with his own daughter in 2015 when she was 11-years-old after his wife left following a domestic squabble. 

Tanzania President says teen mothers will not be allowed back in school but can learn sewing or farming

Tanzania President John Magufuli, during a three day tour of the coast region addressed residents of the Bagamoyo where he accused foreign agents of influencing the civil society organisations to urge the government to permit teen mothers to re-enter the education system. 

He stated that allowing the teen mothers back to school is encouraging other teens to engage in pre-marital sex.

Graca Machel condemns child marriages

Renowned child rights activist Graca Machel has attributed the high levels of child marriages in Africa to poverty. 

Speaking during a media briefing today organized by UNICEF, Ms Machel said children from vulnerable families are at high risk of being married off at a tender age, because their parents cannot afford to provide them with decent livelihoods.

UPND die-hard youth leader dies

United Party for National Development (UPND) die-hard supporter Clance Zulu has died after suffering from injuries she sustained few weeks ago after she was bashed by a car.    

A dedicated UPND youth leader better known as Queen cadre was best known for her depth social media campaigns that suggested that Hakainde Hichilema was the best candidate for plot one in the last two general elections. 

Meanwhile UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said Clance was in attendance at yesterday's trial in which UPND President Hakainde Hichilema was present, and sat throughout the whole process and discussed with a lot party leaders on the organisation of UPND party. 

“Her untimely death therefore has come as a total shock to all of us. 

“Clance was a very active member of our Party and shared the values and vision of our organisation of a democratic united and prosperous Zambia. Our own President Hakainde Hichilema and the entire UPND leadership followed her gallant activities with a keen eye and recognised her as a potential leader of our country,” he said.

UNICEF appoints 19-year-old refugee as Goodwill Ambassador

UNICEF announced on the eve of World Refugee Day, the appointment of Muzoon Almellehan, a 19-year-old education activist and Syrian refugee, as its newest – and youngest – Goodwill Ambassador. 

The appointment makes Muzoon the first person with official refugee status to become an Ambassador for UNICEF.

Students of the Copperbelt University have officially begun the construction of a 1x3 classroom block at Ipusukilo Community School in Musonda Compound.  

The project which was started in 2015 has taken over two years to pool resources together and begin construction. 

Lusaka youth caught with explosives to set the city on fire

A Lusaka youth only identified as Lloyd Kabaso was caught yesterday with highly dangerous explosives in Lusaka CBD meant to set the city to flames. 

Kabaso was caught by a group of youths led by Eddie Gowa and Francis Muchemwa. 

After interrogations, Kabaso's confessed that Lusaka was going to witness bombings never witnessed before. 

He further disclosed that his target were public and private buildings as part of the scheme plotted by political players to cause anarchy. 

Kabaso has since been handed over to the Zambia Police.

AU commends Lungu for championing campaign against child marriage

The African Union (AU) has commended President Edgar Lungu for championing the campaign to end child marriages on the continent. 

In a statement issued by Zambia’s First Secretary for Press in Ethiopia Inutu Mwanza monitored by WM Media, speaking at the open session of the Peace and Security Council, AU Commissioner for Social Affairs Amira Al-Fadil said President Lungu has shown commitment by ensuring that the ban of child marriages remained on the front banner of any developmental discourse across the continent and beyond. 

Bare-breasted protest lands Monze youth in jail

A youth from Monze district, Freedom B compound identified as Shila Hamukale was apprehended on 8th June, 2017 for indecent exposure after she protested bare-breasted in public demanding for the release of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Hamukale, 24, has since been jailed for 21 days and fined K12 by the Monze Magistrate Court for indecent exposure.
