No one will create us jobs apart from ourselves, CBU graduate alerts other graduates

A former Copperbelt University (CBU) student, Oliver Mwanza says graduates should strive to become their own bosses. 

He says graduates ought to change their attitudes for the betterment of mother Zambia adding that no one will create jobs for graduates apart from themselves.

I did not challenge HH to a live TV debate - Tasila Lungu

President Edgar Lungu’s daughter Tasila has refuted reports that she challenged UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to a live TV debate. 

In a statement, Tasila who aspiring for a ward seat in Chawama under the PF ticket said it has come to her attention that statements have been issued and circulated on and off line directly attributed to her ostensibly challenging Mr Hichilema to a debate. 

I have received death threats for reasons I don't know - Pilato

A Copperbelt based musician commonly known as Pilato says the past 3 months have been nothing but a period of threats and intimidation. 

Pilato real names Fumba Chama says he has received death threats for reasons he doesn't know. 

“I know too well that this period is for politicians to play their game and then some of us can play our game after the election results have been announced but it seems some people wont live with that,” he says. 

Tradition, culture and poverty levels propel child marriages - Nkandu Luo

Gender Minister Professor Nkandu Luo says Zambia has one of the highest rates of child marriages in the region especially in rural areas due to tradition, culture and poverty levels among others. 

Professor Nkandu Luo says her ministry has set up measures aimed at reinforcing efforts to end early marriages through working with traditional leaders and other stakeholders. 

Vote YES in referendum, ZYWA urges youths

The Zambia Youth Workers Association (ZYWA) has urged youths across the country to turn up in large numbers and vote yes in the referendum on 11thAugust,2016. 

In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, ZYWA Vice President Teddy Nyasulu said that the Bill of Rights is a progressive and cardinal piece of legislation one as it considers the rights of youths and provides young people with prohibition of engaging in unproductive things. 

KCM launches ‘Nchingilile Ubumi’ campaign, says employee health is their priority

Konkola Copper Mines Chairman Tom Albanese says the health and safety of employees is a top priority in the company because healthy employees are more engaged, productive and have a higher morale. 

Mr. Albanese, who is also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KCM’s parent company, Vedanta Resources Plc, said the health of employees is of critical importance as the company seeks to drive Vedanta’s 50-year vision to continue mining in Zambia.

Republican President Edgar Lungu says the defunct but viable Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles in Kabwe District, in Central Province will resume full operations. 

And President Edgar Lungu has called on the church to pray for peace and elect leaders who believe in Christ in the forthcoming polls set for 11th August 2016. 

Govt empowers 2,500 youths under YDF programme

Government says a total of 2,500 youths have been reached out in empowerment under the Youth Development Fund with a total value of K48 million disbursed so far. 

In an interview, Department of Youth Development Assistant Director for programmes at the Ministry of Youth and Sport Muma Mukupa has noted that the default rate is however, high among those who have accessed the funds from government. 

Ensure accountability and transparency, YTI urges government

Recently, Government launched US$30 million worth “Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Project-Supporting Women and Youth (SDEP-SWY)” funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), which will be implemented by the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC).

UN launches worldwide search for exceptional Young Leaders to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations today launched a new initiative to recognize exceptional young people who are leaders in the effort to end poverty, combat climate change and reduce inequalities. Spear-headed by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, the UN Young Leaders Initiative will recognize on an annual basis 17 young leaders who are driving change to help realize the Sustainable Development Goals.

HH urges young politicians to emulate Muntanga

United Party for National Development UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema has urged young politicians especially those in UPND to emulate the late former Kalomo Member of Parliament Request Muntanga who defended his beliefs during debates in parliament. 

Speaking during the burial of Mr. Muntanga at his farm in Kalomo, Mukwela yesterday, Mr Hichelema says Mr. Muntanga was a fearless leader who was always steadfast in defending his beliefs. 

FDD pledges access to free farmers inputs

The Forum for Democracy and Development party (FDD) says it will give farmers free farming inputs for three years once it forms government after 11 August general election. 

FDD Leader Edith Nawakwi says small scale farmers have for a long time suffered to access farming inputs at a high price.

Impact of escalating wood demand and loadshedding on Zambia’s forest

Presently, it’s a great concern that forests in many parts of the country are disappearing and the current wood demand already places huge pressure on Zambia’s forest.

In Zambia, demand for wood is increasing and analysis’s predicts it will triple by 2050. Where this wood will come from is a challenge. Consumption of wood by the end users and other industrial organization dubbed contractors is very high. Trade in forest products has increased significantly over the past 50 years, especially in processed wood products such as sawn timber, pulpwood, board, and wood-based panels.

MISA Zambia Launches Early Warning Notification System

MISA Zambia Access to Information Ambassador, Reverend Suzanne Matale, has officially announced the Early Warning Notification System (EWNS) which is a systematic way of collecting information in good time to avert the increasing violations against media houses and journalists especially in the build up to the August 11 polls and thereafter.

Rev Matale says the system template aims to gather information every time there is a violation or threat of violation against a media house or journalist by collecting specific information such as the Reporting Entity, Details of the Person, Reporting Date, Nature of Incident and the basic details of the incident.
