Government says a total of 2,500 youths have been reached out in empowerment under the Youth Development Fund with a total value of K48 million disbursed so far.
In an interview, Department of Youth Development Assistant Director for programmes at the Ministry of Youth and Sport Muma Mukupa has noted that the default rate is however, high among those who have accessed the funds from government.
Mr. Mukupa says despite this, government is not sitting idle but has submitted all the names of the defaulters to the debt recovery unit under the Ministry of Justice to recover the funds accessed.
He says the ministry has also started listing all the borrowers on the credit reference bureau making it difficult for defaulters to borrow money from any other institution as a move towards ensuring that people payback what is owed to government.
