Kasonde Mwenda wins K10,000 in the MTN 'help fight against Cholera campaign' competition | WestMac Media

MTN Zambia has awarded winners of the 'help fight against Cholera campaign' competition. 

The company conducted a competition in which 4 initiatives that fostered a clean Zambia campaign were nominated. 


MTN Zambia requested its customers to post pictures on its facebook page and a write up of someone in the community helping clean the city. 

The company highlighted that the nominees stood a chance of winning K10,000 as first prize. and K5,000 as a runner up package worth of material to help sustain the initiative in their community. 

“Remember: 1. Nominate an individual in your community with a genuine project; working towards the eradication of cholera 2. Post pictures and a write up of the works they are doing 3. Panel of judges will then select the best initiatives based on the write up and visits to the project sites 4. Top 4 selected projects will then be show-cased on Facebook for the Facebook community to select the best initiative 5. Project with most the likes will win the grand prize of K10,000 worth of material support 6. No bought likes will be considered,” the company stated. 

And the 4 top nominees included Kasonde Mwenda, a Lusaka resident who mobilized a small team of volunteers and equipment to fumigate over 1500 toilets and dump sites in Katambalala Market in Bauleni; Lizzie Moyo Miti, who was nomited for being proactive in her community even before the cholera outbreak; Mwaba Mutale from Pishamo Pen Youth Initiative who was selected because of the Keep Zambia Clean charity works his organization render to the community and Dexter Nchimunya who was selected because he has been individually working on the drainages in the community. 

However, out of the top 4, Kasonde won the grand prize and Lizzie scooped, runners up prize. 

Kasonde bagged K10,000 and Lizzie, K5,000 both in material support for their respective community projects Kasonde has since congratulated all those that took part in the campaign and those that identified their efforts. 

“Our Bauleni cholera fight community project has won the MTN Zambia fight against Cholera campaign. Thank you, sincerely to those that identified our efforts in Bauleni Township and subsequently nominated us for the MTN fight against Cholera campaign. Most grateful to those that voted, liked, shared, tagged their friends and family and those that spared words of encouragement. Much appreciation to MTN Zambia - Marketing Department for their efforts in helping community projects,” he said. 

He added that the material support will go a long way in helping the community. 

“Hearty Congratulations to my colleagues, the other three nominees and the silent heroes that live amongst us everyday. Wherever we want to go, Our Feet shall Take us there!, ” said Kasonde.

And Lizzie said it was a pleasure to have been recognized as an active community member who had been dedicated all heartedly in the national fight against cholera. 

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people that voted for me to make it second in the MTN fight against cholera campaign. It is a pleasure to be recognized as an active community member who had been dedicated all heartedly in the national fight against cholera that had taken lives of our beloved ones, our brothers, sisters, mother's, fathers to mention a few. It was and still everyone's responsibility to be involved in the cholera fight for it has continued affecting other parts of our nation. Let's unite and combat cholera by keeping our nation clean. Lastly, I humbly dedicate my recognition to all the people that have taken responsibility to fight against cholera, those that nominated me for the MTN fight against cholera campaign, my family and God,” she said. 

Lizzie has also thanked MTN Zambia for their effort and quest to fight cholera by recognizing community members that were actively involved in the fight against cholera. 

The aim of the 'help fight cholera campaign' competition was to put an end to cholera by keeping Lusaka clean with Zambia’s number 1 network.
