Fishermen of Chiengi district in Luapula province have protest against Government's decision to extend fishing ban.
And speaking to ZANIS in a walk-in interview, Chiengi District Fishers Association appealed to Government to consider reviewing the announcement.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock
extended the fishing ban from 1st March to 30th April 2018 as a
preventive measure against outbreaks of cholera in the
country.
And Minister of Fisheries and Livestock Kampamba Mulenga
said the decision to extend the fishing ban has been made
after extensive consultations with the Ministries of Health
and Local Government.
Ms. Mulenga said during the extension period; no fishing
activities will be allowed in all fishery areas of the country.
She said the extension of the fishing ban has been done in
accordance with the provisions of section 14 of the fisheries
act number 22 of 2011.
