The Copperbelt University (CBU) Senate has proposed a rule that students who gets 'Continuous Assessments' below 20% will not be allowed to sit for the 2018 Sessional Examinations.
And Bwalya Nkandu, a 5th year student in the School of Engineering in an interview with WestMac Media said students must be allowed to sit for sessional exams as it is possible to clear with a CA as low as 10%.
Mercy Banda, 4th year student in the School of Built Environment added that for as long as students have registered to sit for respective courses, they should be allowed to write.
“It does not make sense not to sit for the courses which one paid and registered for,” she said.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Banda has since strongly appealed to the current student union leadership to confidently challenge the senate regarding the 20% CA threshold that is suggesting that a student shall not be allowed to sit for the 2018 sessional examination minus reaching
20% of the CA.
“I have seen a number students who have
cleared courses before with CAs of shoe-sizes and I'm a living testimony. I cleared a course with 11% CA. I strong believe that failure to reach half of the CA is not a guarantee for a student not to clear a course,” he said.
