The Lamba Lima Royal Council (LLRC) has appealed to Government to introduce
a statutory instrument (SI) that will support the Lamba language be taught on the Copperbelt and other catchment districts.
LLRC Executive Chairperson, Josphat Nsundwe says the council will not go to sleep until the SI is introduced.
Mr Nsundwe explains that it is a human right to speak equality in languages as the constitution of Zambia is requires citizens to respect, promote and protect the diversity of languages of the Zambian people.
He indicates that the demand of their council is to have a legitimate human right according to the Zambian constitution.
Mr Nsundwe has reiterated that Lamba deserved to be identified and used in schools on the Copperbelt as it was a language in its own jurisdictional areas.
He noted that Lamba Language was not taught in educational institutions in preference to other languages, a situation he said should be revisited.
Mr Nsundwe said the introduction of the language in schools would not only promote the Lamba speaking people’s cultural values but it
would also promote their principles and objectives, consistent with
the Zambian constitution and in particular, the Bill of Rights.
He further noted that Government’s positive action would rightfully
enable the Lamba speaking people in their respective chiefdoms to
preserve, protect and promote the conservation of ancient cultural and
natural heritage relics
