Drivers License is a requirement by law that everyone who drives a motor
vehicle must be a holder of a valid driving license which
would have the appropriate class for the motor vehicle they
are in charge of.
The lay down procedures by Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) are as follows:-
STEP 1: Provisional Driving License
Every person who wishes to learn how to drive must first
obtain a provisional license. In order to obtain a provisional
license. The applicant must undergo a theory test at no fee.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Candidate must be the age of 16 years old to apply for a Motor
Cycle Provisional Driving License or 18 years for Motor
Vehicle Drivers’ License;
• Candidate must take a theory test and pass it;
• Candidate must get a medical report from a Government hospital;
• Candidate must have proof of identification (National Registration Card, Diplomat Passport, Zambian Passport or Refugee ID).
A person issued with a provisional driving license shall whilst driving a motor vehicle at all times be under the
supervision of a person who is in possession of a valid
license, further the “L” plates must be displayed on such a motor vehicle. This license is only valid for 3 months.
Amount involved at this stage is K105.00.
STEP 2: Driving Test
After acquiring the skill of handling a motor vehicle, the applicant can book for a driving test provided the Provisional License is within the 3 months validity period from day of issue.
Amount involved at this stage is K78.
STEP 3: Temporal Drivers License
Upon successful completion of the driver test, the candidate will be issued with the Pass Certificate.
An applicant may pay and upon payment a driving license card is issued instantly.
Amount involved is K130.00.
Overall, the total amount involved in the process of acquiring a Drivers License direct from RTSA on merit is K313.00.
