National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has strongly appealed to the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) to
extend the time in which teachers must pay for their
practicing certificates.
NAQEZ Executive Director, Aaron Chansa proposes that the Council must extend this exercise
from 31st May to 31st December, 2018 to enable many of
our financially crippled teachers to mobilize money for this
important undertaking.
Mr Chansa says this extension would also arrest the
apprehension obtaining among teachers over this matter.
“Currently, most teachers across the country have serious
economic challenges and we feel that they need to be
accorded enough space in order for them to afford paying
these exorbitant TCZ fees. With their small salaries, our
teachers will not manage to pay these fees plus paying for
rentals, transport and attend to many other important
matters,” he says.
He indicates that failure to extend this exercise will force thousands of
teachers to procure expensive loans.
“This situation would
make the economic situation of Teachers worse, and
ultimately affect their performance in class,” Mr Chansa explains.
Mr Chansa has since suggested that TCZ must allow teachers to pay in
installments.
“A primary school teacher, would for example,
find it very difficult to pay K750 for a practicing a certificate
at once. Similarly, a Secondary school teacher would
have great difficulties in parting away with K900 at a go,” he said.
