The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) will start purchasing maize from
farmers on August 1st 2017, at K60 per 50 kg bag.
FRA Board
Chairman Joe Simachela announced at a media briefing yesterday.
Mr. Simachela
said the agency will purchase 500 000 metric tonnes of grain as the national
strategic food reserve.
He further said
the agency will operate 760 satellite depots during the 2017 crop marketing
exercise, representing a reduction of 463 from 1223 satellite depots that FRA
has operated in the past countrywide.
Speaking at the
same event, FRA Executive Director Chola Kafwabulula assured the nation that
everything is place in readiness for the commencement of the crop purchase.
