Government has retaliated the need for cooperatives to fully
run as business entities and to transform into industrial
cooperatives in order for them to be sustainable and
contribute to national development.
Southern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Douglas
Ngimbu has observed that sustained cooperative businesses
can also help alleviate poverty.
Mr. Ngimbu was speaking today in Choma during the
International Cooperatives Day under the theme "Inclusion".
He said government is committed to support linkages that
are aimed at promoting and supporting cooperative
development for the sustainability.
Mr. Ngimbu said there is need for cooperative members to
support each other and has further commended the private
sector for rendering support to cooperatives.
And Agriprofocus Zambia Country coordinator, Yvonne
Mtumbi has said that there cannot be meaningful business
growth if cooperatives worked in isolation.
Ms Mtumbi said there is need for cooperatives to partner
with other organisations and added that her organization is
facilitating linkages among stakeholders.
Speaking at the same event, Southern Province Cooperatives
and Marketing Union board chairman, Phanuel Makwamba
thanked government for the continued support to the
cooperatives.
Mr. Makwamba said the facilitation of solar powered milling
plants has added value to cooperatives in the province.
In a vote of thanks, Raphael Mwiinzani, an organizing
committee member urged cooperatives' members drawn
from across the province to take solar powered milling
plants- a presidential initiative as gifts of good governance.
