Fisheries and Livestock Minister Greyford
Monde says young people shunning national responsibility is among several
contributing factors to low youth representation in Parliament.
Mr. Monde says lack of
empowerment for aspiring youth is also a setback.
He was speaking during
a media briefing for the Inter-Parliamentary Union-IPU- meeting in Lusaka
today.
Mr. Monde also noted
that the high nomination fees for those standing for political office is
another factor contributing to low youth participation in parliamentary
business.

And Mufumbwe Member of Parliament Steven Masumba has called on Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ to reduce the nomination fees to allow a number of young people aspiring for parliament to do so.
Meanwhile, IPU
President Saber Chowdhury said there is need for young people to be at the
centre of the sustainable development agenda.
