A manganese processing company, “Ferro Alloys” in Kabwe has laid off 200 workers due to high electricity tariffs.
According to a statement issued by Company Commercial Executive Katimba Chisanga, Ferro Alloys will be put under care and maintenance as it cannot contain increment of over 200 percent in electricity tariffs.
Mr. Katimba says electricity accounts for about 30% of the company total overhead costs.
Mr. Katimba has since appealed to the government to intervene and save the plant from closing down.
