General Education Minister John Phiri has announced that a total of 310, 230 grade 7 pupils have been selected to grade 8 out of 344, 516 that sat for the 2015 Exams.
Out of the 310, 230 candidates selected, 155, 878 are boys while 154, 352 are girls representing a progression rate of
88.35 percent and 91.83 percent respectively.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, Dr. Phiri says those that have passed, 63, 951 candidates, out of which 33, 313 are boys and 30, 638 are girls, are in division 1 category, while 83, 162 are in division 2.
He further says the 206, 289 candidates that have obtained divisions 1, 2, and 3 certificates represent 59.9 percent of the total candidates that sat for this year’s composite exams.
Dr. Phiri says the 138, 227 candidates that have obtained division 4 which is the lower awarded certificate represent
40.1 percent of the pupils that sat for the exams.
He notes that in view of this percentage he has directed the Directorate of Standards and Curriculum to extend the “Catch-Up” strategies being implemented at secondary
school level to the primary school level.
