Government
through the Ministry of Local government and Housing says Lusaka and Copperbelt
Street vendors will be relocated to new places.
Speaking
on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Sunday Interview programme,
Minister of Local Government and Housing, Stephen Kampyongo said once the ministry
is done done with the relocation process in Lusaka and Copperbelt, a similar
process will be done in Livingstone.
The
Minister said the land where Lusaka vendors will be relocated has already been
found along Lumumba Road in the central business district.
Mr.
Kampyongo added that vendors should not worry as government is on the ground doing
everything possible to support and find suitable places that could satisfy vendor’s
needs.
He added that the land along Lumumba Road has already been
cleared and construction of the ablution block is under way.
Mr. Kampyongo also stated that his ministry is still negotiating
with concerned stakeholders for other two locations where other who will remain
will be relocated.
