United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema (HH) says children that have been left homeless in the streets of the country deserve a better tomorrow.
Mr. Hichilema and other UPND officials
spent their Christmas having quality time with hundreds of vulnerable children and groups in society whom they shared a meal with at Lusaka Main Post office.
“These are our fellow and lovely citizens who are not in the streets by choice but economic circumstances have forced
them to be in that situation,” he said, adding that giving them quality education, skills and job opportunities would be the best answer that will permanently offer them shelter.
During this occasion, the UPND leader was accompanied by party Vice-President, Dr. Canisius Banda who reminded the invited vulnerable youths to always maintain peace and order in the country.
Mr. Hichilema appealed to the vulnerable children to be God fearing children and refrain from bad vices that makes society shun them.
“Other than sharing the meal and clothes we have given them, we also came to give them hope for a better life in future,” said Mr. Hichilema.
However, during this noble gesture Zambia Police came and wanted to disrupt the occasion.
“We wondered when it became a crime to eat with others, especially the hungry and vulnerable children in the streets,” HH lamented.
