The Young African Leaders Initiative
(YALI) is concerned that some private
schools have focused on the collection
of money as opposed to promoting
higher standards of learning.
YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza
reiterates that while Government has
resumed the registration of private
schools, measures must be put in place
to ensure the education authorities keep
an eye on private schools.
Mr. Mwanza has told QFM News in an
interview that government should also conduct periodical
assessment on private schools promotion of high education
standards.
Mr. Mwanza says it will be inexcusable for the Ministry of
Education to continue to see the standards of education go
down when the unit that monitors education standards
within the Ministry could have done something to help
alleviate such a problem.
He notes that Zambia’s education standards have been the
best in the SADC region but the falling standards can be
attributed to the laxity by the Ministry in enforcing high
standards especially among private schools that have
mushroomed around the country.
He says just like in the Ministry of education, the Ministry of
Health must also scale up efforts to monitor the quality of
health care being provided by clinics around the country.
And Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PROTUZ)
General Secretary Albert Muyembe has told QFM News in a
separate interview that there is need to promote
professionalisms in the education sector.
Mr. Muyembe states that there is also need for private
institutions to effectively follow the education standards set
by government.
