Zambia's highest learning institution, The University of Zambia (UNZA) will in due time effect new pass marks.
The minimum marks needed to pass an examination at UNZA in some faculties is as low as 40%.
The University of Zambia senate has this year moved a motion to raise the pass mark for undergraduate courses to 50% and 45% from 40%.
Other faculties including ridge way campus School of Medicine have a 50% pass mark as compared to School of education, mines, humanities, engineering and natural sciences which have 40% pass mark.
In an interview with WM Media, a student in the school education, John Mwanza says
the move taken by senate will enable students study very hard.
“The move taken by senate is welcome. It will enable UNZA students to study even more harder and perhaps compete with other students in the southern region favorably.” He says.
He adds that students in the schools of law, agriculture, veterinary and medicine are already used to 50% pass mark.
