Award-winning actress, writer
and producer Cassie Kabwita has
been appointed as the country
manager for Miss Zambia beauty
pageant.
The charming actress has been
tasked to run the Miss Zambia
pageant by Platinum Events
Productions, who seem seriously
intent on changing the landscape
of entertainment on the local
front.
The outfit, which is also
organising the Africa Hip-Hop
Awards whose launch party is set
for next week at Chez Ntemba in
Lusaka’s Kabulonga, is running
the Miss Zambia pageant under
an arrangement with former
Miss Zambia Elizabeth Mwanza,
who is the franchise holder.
For the first pageant last year,
they gave the Miss Zambia
winner, Louisa Josephs
Chingangu, a car. However, the
two, Louisa and Platinum Events,
eventually fell out.
Therefore, Cassie, the Zambian
face in the Tanzanian movie
industry, will have her work cut
out in reshaping the brand of
Miss Zambia.
A few industry players took issue
with the way Louisa was stripped
of her title. But indications so far
point to the brand not having
been damaged in any way. Just
through online applications, the
Miss Zambia received over 1,200
applications.
Well, it should not be a surprise;
the organisers have hinted at the
winner getting a house as prize
money.
Who wouldn’t fancy a car for just
gracing the catwalk?
Cassie, who has acted in Love
Games, Guilty and produced
Kwacha in Zambia, takes over as
Miss Zambia manager from
Platinum Events Productions co-
founder and country manager
Nana Yaw Obiri Yeboah, who is
now based in Ghana attending to
his new position in the company.
“I love my new job because it
involves the girl child, and I’ve a
great passion for the girl child. I
will use the Miss Zambia to help
improve the lives of the
vulnerable Zambian child,” she
told the Weekend Mail.
“I will be in Zambia on July 7 to
take up my responsibility as the
new Miss Zambia manager. I’m
currently in Tanzania filming.” Credit: ZDM
