Kabwe Diocese Catholic Bishop
Clement Mulenga says a boy
child should not be neglected at
the expense of only advancing
the cause of a girl child.
Bishop Mulenga said it is a
concern that not much attention
is given to the boy child as is the
case with the girl child.
Zambia Daily Mail reports that Bishop Mulenga, who was
speaking at Angelina Tembo Girls
School’s golden jubilee
celebrations, said there is need
to ensure that a boy child also
feels a sense of belonging.
“The girls are receiving all the
support from all walks of life, but
we should not forget about the
boy child and their well-being as
well,” he said.
He said there is need to construct
more schools for the boys to also
ensure they receive the best
education like the girls, for them
to make a meaningful
contribution to the country.
He said boys also need
protection and quality education
as they are also the future
leaders.
“In as much as there is need to
promote the girl child, the boy
child should not be left but they
should receive the same
protection because they also face
challenges that are not brought
out,” he said.
And Central Province Minister
Sydney Mushanga, who graced
the occasion, commended the
church for the support towards
educating the girl child.
Mr Mushanga said Government
will continue to partner with the
church in the education sector,
adding that Government alone
cannot manage.
“The Catholic Church has shown
its commitment in
supplementing Government’s
efforts in education by providing
quality education to our children,
other stakeholders should also
emulate,” Mr Mushanga said.
