The Young African Leaders Initiative has joined many
condemning UPND aligned opposition political parties
urging the international community to suspend aid to
Zambia over the incarceration of Hakainde Hichilema.
YALI executive director Andrew Ntewewe said that the call to
freeze aid to Zambia was selfish and would only hurt
ordinary citizens.
Ntewewe said that it was irresponsible for anyone to push
for the isolation of Zambia on grounds of the arrest and
detention of an opposition leader.
Like FDD leader Antonio Mwanza, Ntewewe described the
desire of the opposition trio as plain selfish.
Last week opposition leaders Nevers Mumba (MMD faction),
Charles Milupi (ADD) and Mike Mulongoti (People’s Party)
called for the IMF and other donors to withhold aid to
Zambia to pressure President Edgar Lungu’s government
release Hichilema. LT
