Chief Ufwenuka’s Representative Macman Hamaando says parents should help girl child to attain high education which would help to eradicate high poverty levels in families.
Mr. Hamaando said early marriages should not be tolerated in the chiefdom as it denies girls chances to excel in life.
Speaking in interview with Radio Chikuni today, Mr. Hamaando said girls who are married off at a tender age face many life challenges that could be avoided.
He further appealed to parents in his chiefdom to desist from the practice.
Meanwhile, a Paralegal in Ufwenuka Chiefdom Olivier Mwiinga has warned both parents and men who marry young girls to stop the vice as it is a serious.
Mr. Mwiinga has since appealed to well meaning Zambians, especially in rural areas, to report such cases to relevant
authorities.
