A perfectly round rainbow-like halo surrounded the sun in some parts of Zambia on Sunday 18/10/2015, a day which the republican president declared a day of national prayer, fasting and reconciliation.
People spent the day with their heads looking up at the sky, trying to capture the phenomenon and share it on social media.
While the weather phenomenon is fairly common, people in the streets grabbed their cameras and smart phones to get a perfect shot of the optical illusion.
The solar halo made people conclude that its was a sign of God’s grace upon Zambians to have a rainbow surrounding the sun on a day dubbed “national day of prayer, fasting and reconciliation.”
Other people further went on to interpret meanings associated to the rainbow as signs of peace, hope, new beginnings, a gate to the divine realms, mystery, purity and wholeness of the creation.
However, physics and geography defines solar halos as rings of light that can encircle the sun or the moon, and they usually occur when a thin layer of cirrus clouds are present in the sky.
