Minister of Gender, Nkandu Luo has reaffirmed that government is committed to empowering women with skills and is
ready to implement and launch 'women at work' campaign.
Prof. Luo said this when she was giving a ministerial statement in parliament.
She said women at work campaign will seek to promote equality, female empowerment and leadership.
Prof. Luo added that the campaign is also aimed at providing young women with leadership opportunities, internship and mentoring programmes to further their skills.
“The skills that these young women will acquire will strengthen and enable them to take on greater leadership roles within their communities and places of employment,” she said.
Prof. Luo who is also Munali Lawmaker
said the campaign is designed to offer entrepreneurship, civic leadership, public management trainings to young women aged between 25 and 35-years.
The Minister also said the women at work campaign holds great promise for learning adding that it is unfortunate that unemployment and the lack of women in leadership positions in public, private and civic society sectors have hampered Zambia’s development.
