Govt decision on poultry excites MMD Youths, PSDA

By Staff Reporter
Movement for Multi-Party Democracy youths have welcomed the decision made by government to ban foreigners from trading in businesses such as poultry, domestic haulage, quarry, and/or block making unless in partnership with Zambians.

And MMD National Secretary, Bowman Lusambo in a statement has said government has done well to ban foreigners from doing businesses that can be conducted by Zambians.

“As MMD youths, we wish to applaud the stance taken by the Government to ban foreigners from selling blocks and chickens and any other businesses that can ordinarily be done by indigenous Zambians,” Mr. Lusambo said, adding that this move would empower Zambians to expand their businesses.

And Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) has also welcomed the idea by government to create an enabling environment for small scale entrepreneurs.

Speaking on behalf of PSDA, Yusuf Dodia said banning foreigners from trading in businesses which could be done by local Zambians would compliment the Citizen Economic Empowerment Act.

However, Mr. Dodia who is PSDA Chairperson has expressed concern that banning foreigners instead of using other means would give an opportunity to other Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to ban Zambians from participating in some businesses, which would have negative results.

Meanwhile, Mr. Lusambo has since appealed to government to consider extending the ban to small scale mining.
