Josephine Chomba, one of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) coordinators has been selected to participate in the 5-week Study of the United
States Institutes (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Women’s
Leadership program.
A Zambian born Josephine will leave for the United
States on June 27, 2015 and return to Zambia on August 1,
2015.
She is currently a student at Mulungushi
University.
Last year, Chomba featured on our YOUR VOICE MATTERS block where she said her dream for Zambia and Africa as a whole is to see people change their way of thinking regarding national issues.
She added that she also aims to promote patriotism and participation of citizens in national affairs so as to build a better environment not just for Zambia but Africa as a whole.
SUSI Student Leader programs are intensive short term
academic programs whose purpose is to provide groups of
undergraduate student leaders with a deeper understanding
of the United States, while simultaneously enhancing their
leadership skills.
The five-week Institute will consist of a balanced series of
seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and
lectures. The coursework and classroom activities will be
complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership
activities, and volunteer opportunities within the local
community.
The Institute will include an academic residency
component of approximately four weeks and a domestic
study tour of approximately one week.
During the academic
residency, participants will also have the opportunity to
engage in educational and cultural activities outside of the
classroom.
