Press Statement
For Immediate Release
As Open Society Foundation, we are at pain to note that
tribalism has taken its toil in our country. It seems the
elections have left us more divided with postulated hate,
division and frustration.
A house divided by it cannot stand. As a country, we should
know that we are one people all of us sharing the common
dream and aspiration. We are a great family of one people
created by God. Our common enemy is not the color of our
skin or the place of our birth or the language of our tongue,
our common enemy is poverty, corruption, social injustice and
inequity that are the war we must defeat and win.
As a Foundation we are calling on Zambians to rise above
board and conquer hate with love, for love comes naturally. It’s
a Noble cause to protect the mantra of One Zambia, one
Nation for it has brought us together .We are a people that has
seen peace for 50years not because sometimes we have never
been dissatisfied but because we have learned to co-exist as
one people.Inter-marriages have united us together and in our
children flows the blood of both tribes. Our dream is to see a
Zambia where a child from any part of our country can aspire
for the highest office of our land.
To our generation regionalism, sectarianism and tribalism is a
terror that has shamed Africa and these walls must be broken
down. The Rwandan genocide must convict us that never again
should this vice cause pain, sorrow and tyranny in our time.
Yes ,post elections leaves frustrations and hate ,especially
when our preferred candidate loses but that should not let the
bond of our affection strain and divide us .we are one people
all of us sharing in a Zambia Dream ” The land of work and
joy ,All one strong and free”. This we must preach, love and
unity we must have and animosity, acrimony and detestation
we must hate.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA
