Some Copperbelt University students including those in final years have missed 2014/2015 exams for two days now.
It is alleged that the affected students have not paid a threshold of 80% required tuition fees, others have not even done course registration due to lack of finances to meet the required minimum threshold.
The sessional examinations begun on monday and affected students have since missed the exams they were supposed to write on monday and tuesday respectively.
Among other affected students, one told WM Media Pty. Ltd in an interview that majority of affected students are self-sponsored students and not beneficiaries of government bursary scheme.
Meanwhile COBUSU President, Humphrey Mwenya says that the Copperbelt University Vice Chancellor Prof Naison Ngoma has been issuing sentiments and telling the affected intellectuals that they are not students but just thieves because they haven't registered and should not
be represented by anyone.
“However, as COBUSU we shall
always speak and stand-up for the rights and interests of students, until everyone is given a fair chance then shall we rest.” he says.
Mr Mwenya further says that COBUSU shall speak for the affected until the matter is addressed.
“We would like to inform you that Even if
its two students affected, we shall speak for them because we represent the interest of the poor, the need and the less
privileged.” he says.
Mr Mwenya urges affected students to remain calm and keep studying.
“Be informed that everyone will seat for exams be it deffered. We shall continue to fight for you and not succumb to any form of intimidation.” he says.
Meanwhile CBU management maintains its position that students must pay the minimum threshold before writing exams.
