THE Kitwe Magistrate’s Court has slapped a three- month simple
imprisonment sentence on a teenager of Ipusukilo township in Kitwe for
assaulting and inserting hot chilli in the genitals of a 16-year-old Grade 11
pupil she suspected of having an affair with her husband.
Acccording to Zambia Daily Mail, Salome Chishimba, 19, of house number 3058, was charged
with assaulting the girl.
When the matter came up for plea before senior resident magistrate Daniel
Musonda, Chishimba admitted the charge.
“Your honour, I beat her up because she was going out with my husband,”
Chishimba said.
Chishimba, on June 18 this year in Kitwe, assaulted the girl.
Mr Musonda convicted Chishimba on her own unequivocal plea of guilty. In mitigation, Chishimba asked the court to forgive her and she vowed never to commit a similar offence in future.
Passing the sentence on Wednesday, Mr Musonda said Chishimba is a young first offender who deserves the court’s leniency and a second chance in life.
“However, the medical report indicates that you inserted chilli into the complainant’s private parts and that to me is an aggravating circumstance,” Mr Musonda said.
He sentenced Chishimba to three months simple imprisonment with effect from Wednesday.
Mr Musonda granted Chishimba leave to appeal to the High Court. Chishimba, who had a baby strapped on her back, broke down after Mr Musonda pronounced the verdict.
Facts before the court are that on the fateful day, the complainant, a grade 11 pupil at Mitanto Secondary School, was on her way to school when she met Chishimba who accused her of flirting with her husband.
The court heard that Chishimba beat up the girl when she denied the allegation and also inserted hot chilli in her genitals.
The court heard that the girl reported the matter to the police and Chishimba was arrested and charged with assault.
