Kumbukilani Phiri is a Zambian male aged 34 with more
than 10 years of senior management experience in both
strategic and project management, promoting and
developing new areas of investments in Africa, China and
South America.
Mr. Phiri is a recipient of the Zambia-China
Joint Scholarship which enabled him to study for a Bachelor
of Engineering in Civil Engineering at Guangxi University in
China where he graduated as a top student in the Civil
Engineering Department, and he is also a recipient of the
Beit Trust Scholarship which enabled him to go and study for
a Masters Degree in Management at the University of Leeds
in the UK where he graduated with a distinction, and among
the top ten students from the Business School.
His
qualifications in engineering and business management
provides him with skills necessary to understand technical
matters easily and operate within a business environment.
Currently Mr. Phiri is the Founder and Chief Executive
Officer of Green Lake Zambia Limited a company that he
founded in 2012 upon his return from the Diaspora when he
heeded a call to come and invest in his own country of
Zambia. Green Lake is specialized in Construction and Real
Estate Development. The company has since inception done
a number of construction projects for both the government
and the private sector employing over 200 Zambians youths
across the country.
Previously Mr. Phiri worked as an
international business manager for Sunshine Kaidi New
Energy Group in China where he was responsible for
opening the African market for infrastructure and energy
investments. This job exposed him to dealing with
government leadership from different countries at various
levels. At the same time, Mr. Phiri also worked as Executive
Vice President for Kaidi Biomass Zambia Limited (KBZ) a
joint venture between Sunshine Kaidi of China and Biomass
Development Plc of Zambia.
Among the many achievements
here was the successful setup of the joint venture in Zambia.
During his time as Executive Vice President of KBZ he
successfully managed the negotiations and signing of an
investment promotion and protection agreement with the
Zambian government for a renewable energy investment of
initially US$450 million, targeted to grow to US$3 billion and
employ over 15,000 Zambians.
Mr. Phiri is also an ardent writer who contributes a number
of business and social articles to major media houses in the
country as he believes in knowledge sharing and being a
role model to the Zambian youths.
