The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation
(ZAFFICO) has taken over the ownership of Kawambwa Tea
Estate, with immediate effect.
Kawambwa Tea Company Manager, Johns Bunda confirmed
the takeover of the beleaguered State company which he
says has since changed its name to ZAFFICO Tea Company.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Bunda disclosed the development
during the District Development Coordinating Committee
meeting held in the council chamber on Thursday.
Mr. Bunda said ZAFFICO has taken all the company’s liability
and will soon start paying the former workers their
outstanding wages and other entitlements.
He said at the time of taking over, Kawambwa Tea Company
had 423 hectares of tea and 198 hectares of eucalyptus trees
plantation.
Meanwhile stakeholders in Kawambwa have rejected the
changing of the name of the former Kawambwa tea
company to ZAFFICO Tea.
The District Development Coordinating Committee members
have requested ZAFFICO to maintain the former name as a
trade mark under the new management.
