The Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union ZULAWU has condemned the continued casualization of some
workers in councils in Eastern Province.
ZULAWU President, Misheck Nyambose told the media in Chipata yesterday that casualization should be stopped in councils because it is against the labour laws.
Mr. Nyambose says the union is very disappointed that casualization still exists in councils especially among division
four workers who clean markets and collect levies.
Mr. Nyambose says all councils in the province should put their casual workers on permanent employment or lay them
off if they cannot offer them permanent jobs.
And Mr. Nyambose says ZULAWU has submitted to government for negotiations for salaries of council workers to be increased.
He added that the union also wants government to come up with a central system of payment of salaries for council
workers because there are a lot of leakages in the way council workers get paid.
The ZULAWU President says some top management officials at councils tend to pay themselves huge salaries at the
expense of junior officers.
Mr. Nyambose was in Chipata to explain the new insurance scheme for council workers.
