FOUNDATION for Democratic Process (FODEP) is calling on all stakeholders in the electoral process to strongly advocate for the application and invoking of the provisions of the Electoral Code of
Conduct of 2011 throughout the electoral cycle to take care of premature
electoral campaigns in the country.
It has emerged that Lusaka City Council LCC was unaware that the equipment hired out at the weekend to clean the area between Fairview and Libala in Lusaka was going to be used by a politician. LCC spokesperson Habeenzu Mulunda in an interview with ZNBC expressed total ignorance of the situation at play when it came to light that the businessman, Clement Tembo is a motivated aspiring candidate running an active campaign to
become area MP for Kabwata constituency in 2016.
And concerned Patriotic Front PF members in the area have expressed wonder at Tembo’s ability to mobilize funds for printing a lot of publicity material in form of posters, banners and T-shirts.
Foundation for Democratic Process FODEP director, Macdonald Chipenzi
has since asked the Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ to guide stakeholders on when aspiring parliamentary candidates should start their campaigns.
“The pasting of campaign posters on electrical poles other buildings by
prospective aspiring candidates in Kabwata Constituency when Commission has not determined election timetable for the campaigns is of great concern and should be censured by the relevant authorities,” stated Chipenzi in his press release.
The ambitious Tembo calls his campaign “Save Kabwata”.
