Deadline:15th August, 2014
This Award is targeted specifically at students/young scientists with
innovative technologies for rural women smallholder farmers and
persons with disabilities engaged in smallholder farming.
The award targets agricultural learning institutions, and social science,
and IT departments within Universities and polytechnics in the Eastern
and Southern Africa region.
The Young Scientist Innovation Award includes two separate awards,
targeting two stakeholder groups:
1. Small scale women farmers: This Award will acknowledge young
scientific students’ gender-sensitive technologies that address the
specific constraints that women face in rural development. It is
expected that gender equality and rural women smallholder farmers
are key components of their scientific projects and that rural women
smallholder farmers are the specific target group. The Award
selection will be based on the same criteria as the technologies
included in the Sharefair at large (For more information CLICK HERE). However, the
Award will be restricted to those technologies which are submitted
by students and are considered to be specifically innovative.
2. People with disabilities: This Award will bring attention to the
needs and opportunities of people with disabilities (PWDs) and
acknowledge learning institutions and their students for their
innovations that are specifically suitable for this target group’s
engagement in rural smallholder farming (such as those assisting
visually impaired or physically challenged farmers.
